Queen Is Dead

Queen Elizabeth the Second, the 96-year-old Britain’s longest-serving monarch, is dead.

Late Queen Elizabeth the Second

The Buckingham Palace had earlier confirmed growing fears on Thursday over Queen Elizabeth II after her doctors were “concerned” for her health and recommended that she remained under medical supervision.

The late monarch has been dogged by health problems since last October that has left her with difficulties to walk and stand

On Wednesday, she pulled out of a planned meeting with her senior political advisors, after being told to rest.

The previous day, she held audiences at her Scottish Highlands retreat, Balmoral, with outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson and appointed his successor, Liz Truss.

“Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

“The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral,” the palace added.

The palace statement about the queen’s health is highly unusual and comes after she has looked visibly frailer in recent months, and a succession of withdrawals from public engagements.

She has taken to walking with the help of a stick and was also seen earlier this year at the Chelsea Flower Show touring the site in a motorized buggy.

In February, she was laid low by a bout of COVID-19, which she admitted afterwards had left her “exhausted”.

UK-Based Nigerian Student Dies After Eating Candy Laced With Cannabis

A United Kingdom-based Nigerian student identified as Damilola Grace Olakanmi is dead after she was said to have consumed cannabis sweets.

The University of Hertfordshire business law undergraduate, 23, was said to have bought the “gummies” via a messaging app on her phone and they were delivered to her home.

Olakanmi and a 21-year-old friend immediately fell ill at their home in South Park Drive, Ilford at 11:30 pm on March 29.

According to Evening Standard, the pair ate the sweets that came in packaging branded “Trrlli Peachie O’s”.

Olakanmi was taken by air ambulance to Queen’s Hospital, Romford in critical condition.

It was gathered that doctors later discharged Olakanmi’s friends who happens to be a student from the United States visiting the UK from the hospital.

Richard Taylor, a justice campaigner and relative, consoled Wunmi, the student’s mother, who kept a vigil by her daughter’s bedside as she fought for her life in an east London hospital, where she died on Saturday.

“Wumi has lost her only child , she has nothing now. They had to hold her up because she broke down every time a friend came to the house to give support,” said Taylor on Sunday.

“It’s a tragic warning to all young people about how they live their lives. They should resist drugs.

“Damilola was a promising young woman who should be looking forward to her future and having children of her own. She was studying law.”

Bamise: Why Some BRT Buses Do Not Have CCTV – Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday reacted to public concerns about the absence of a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera in the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) boarded by Bamise Ayanwola, before she was murdered.

Ms Ayanwola, 22, got missing while returning to Ota from Ajah on February 26, 2022 when she boarded a BRT bus with number 240257 going to Oshodi at about 7 p.m. at Chevron Bus-Stop. Her body was later discovered some days after.

Immediately after the news of her disappearance and eventual death, many people especially the social media users have raised concerns about safety measures for commuters patronising the BRT.

Speaking to the press at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan to commemorate International Women’s Day, the governor said the buses procured abroad about two and a half years ago have inbuilt cameras and trackers, for their operations.

“However, the additional ones that we bought locally last year are the ones we have not installed CCTV cameras because you need to do a lot of configuration before you can do CCTV cameras in them, so we are speaking with the manufacturers,” Mr Sanwo-Olu said.

“I don’t need to mention names but they were purchased locally. That is the unfortunate one this particular incident happened.”

The governor also warned members of the public not to board BRT after the close of bus services in the evening.

While in the BRT, Ms Ayanwola had sent a short video to her friend of how dark the BRT was.

“At the time when this driver closes and they switch off the light, they are meant to drive back into their yards, let me repeat myself, they are meant to drive back empty into their yard,” he said

He said that buses that have closed for the day would indicate by switching off their inner lights.

“Any bus that is still in service will certainly not have his light off and so that itself is something the citizens need to be aware of.

“That once the light of a bus has fully off, once the radar is not showing where it is going to, people should desist from entering it because the conductor would have been out of it, the checkers would have been out of it, it is only the driver that is taking the bus to the terminal.”

Mr. Sanwo-Olu described those accusing his government as “low minds and have no conscience.” He said, “I have seen several narratives and write-ups about it. Some people are being extremely sensational, posting and saying that the Lagos State Government wants to cover something; even my person wants to cover something”.

“I think people trivialize life and make it look at everything as if they want to score a cheap point. I think this message should go to people like that — they are of low minds and have no conscience.” He however expressed confidence in the competence of the Nigerian police to do justice to their investigation.
