Eulogies For Party Leader As Group Celebrates Third-Year Anniversary

It was a pool of commendations and encomiums from party faithfuls, community leaders, women leagues and youths as Bamu Authority Seat (BAS) marked its Third-year Anniversary in honour of the Apex Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Epe division and member, Governor’s Advisory Committee (GAC) in Lagos, the Apashe of Epe Land, Alhaji Seriki Akanni (Baba Bamu).

Taking a trip down memory lane in his welcome address, the group’s President, Hon. Yisa Apena (Auzor) recalled how the group was formed in 2017 by like-minded friends who are disciples of Baba Bamu and are proud to be associated with him. The group’s objective according to him was, “to support all that concerns Alhaji Akanni Seriki (BAMU) as Baba has been found to be a worthy leader of Epe Division in particular and Lagos State by extension”. Auzor said, “this year’s celebration is also meant to celebrate the recent appointment of the proud son of our leader, Alh. Ahmed Seriki as Commissioner representing Epe Division at the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission by His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu”.

Speaking at the event held at the Court Hall, Ita-opo Epe on Saturday December 26, 2020, the Council Chairman, Hon. Adedoyin Adesanya described Alhaji Akanni Seriki as not just a political leader but a father to many foster children who also seeks their progress at all times. He urged other politicians to pick valuable lessons from Baba’s lifestyle and emulate his virtues and political mastery. Other speakers at the occasion showered praises on Baba and prayed God preserve him for continuous growth of the Division.

Club ’97 of Epe Division (a forum of the Indigenes of Epe Division in Lagos Local Government Service) was also at the event to celebrate with Commissioner Ahmed Seriki. The Club’s President (also a member of BAS), Mr. Okeowo Ishiak Adeshina (FCA) in his goodwill message belauded the virtues of Baba Bamu which according to him, “is our assurance that his son who can be described as his ‘carbon copy’, will serve our interest at the LGSC for the development of our Division”.

The chairman of the event, Hon. Abiodun Tobun, Member, Lagos State House of Assembly (Epe 1) and Chairman, House Committee on Works unveiled the “Bamu Foundation” initiated by the group to sustain the legacy of Alhaji Seriki Akanni through scholarships, healthcare, training and empowerment for the people of Epe Division and beyond.

In his response, Alhaji Akanni Seriki (Baba Bamu) who was ably represented by his son, Alhji Ahmed Seriki lauded the group’s initiative which is an expression of the love they have for his dad and his humble self. He assured them that Baba will continue to do his best for the good of the people and Epe Division. He equally pledged not to betray the trust people have in him at his new appointment.

Local Government Service; Seriki Pledges Diligence Representation

The Commissioner representing Epe Division at Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Ahmed Seriki has pledged to serve the Division with utmost diligence and justify his appointment as the true representative of his people.

Seriki gave his words at an event marking Club ’97 of Epe Division’s end of the year get-together and a grand reception in his honour, held on Sunday December 13, 2020 at Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area Secretariat’s Banquet Hall, Lagos.

The astute politician said, “I’m duty bound to represent my Division and my people to the best of my ability. Doing so is not a favour but my responsibility and the reason for my appointment. I’m a product of this association having served as the Public Relations Officer while in service before my venturing into politics”.

The former Executive Secretary at Epe Local Government however urged all sons and daughters of Epe Division to ensure validation of their membership of Club ’97 of Epe Division (the forum of Indigenes of Epe Division in Lagos State Local Government Service) for easy access of benefits. “I want to charge you all to pay your dues promptly and ensure you update your credentials with the group because going forward, I’m going to be working with your leadership. Every request from the Division must be routed through Club ’97”. He declared.

In his remarks, the guest of Honour and the Accountant General of Lagos State, Dr. ‘Biodun Muritala commended the leadership of Club ’97 and assured members of his resolve to support the Commissioner in whatever capacity that will enhance his work at the LGSC for the benefit of group members.

On his part, the Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Adedoyin Adesanya (also a product of the pressure group) stretched his hands of comradeship to the association by pledging his support and eagerness to offer any assistance requested of him that is within his jurisdictions.

President of the Club, Mr. Isiaka Adeshina Okeowo in his keynote address applauded the efforts of the immediate past representative hoping that the coming of Honourable Seriki will usher in good tidings for Club members in particular and Epe Division by extension.

Present at the group’s get-together are; the immediate past representative of the Division, Hon. Olabode Garbadeen, members of the Club’s BOT, Council Managers, Council Treasurers, Heads of Departments/Units and other members of the association.

Highlights of the event are goodwill messages from past Presidents and Patrons, presentation of the Club’s Certificate of Incorporation by members of BOT to the President as well as presentation of awards, gifts to guests of honour.

Club ’97 of Epe Division is a pressure group established in 1997 for the sole aim of championing the interest of members (sons and daughters of Epe Division) in the Unified Local Government Service of Lagos State. The group has since grown to produce a Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode (FCA) in Lagos State (2016 – 2019).
