Dullar Swears-in Councillors, Inaugurates New Legislative Council

…solicits cooperation for better governance

Hon. Abdul-Hamed Salawu (Dullar), the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government has sworn-in the newly elected Councillors and inaugurated the Ninth Legislative Council in the Local Government Area.

Welcoming party leaders, members and well-wishers to the event held at the Council Secretariat, Dullar congratulated the legislators on their victories at the polls. “I congratulate you all as I did to every member of our great party because your victory is our victory’.

The Council Boss said, “I am happy to swear you in and inaugurate the next Legislative Council that will partner with me for the next Four Years to steer the leadership of our Local Government. My happiness is hinged on the comradeship, brotherhood and the friendship that bind us together as members of our great party, All Progressives Congress (APC)”.

“We all are products of a progressive family. Blood they say, is thicker than water. Even though your role is constitutionally distinct from the executive’s role, the aims, purposes and objectives are same. We are both elected to serve our people and in this case, the wonderful people of Somolu Local Government in particular and our dear Lagos State by extension”.

Dullar further solicited the cooperation of the Councillors to allow for smooth and purposeful governance in the Local Government. His words, “While I pledge to utmostly allow you to perform your duties through the provision of conducive and enabling environment within the limit of available resources, I also solicit your full cooperation with me, members of the executive cabinet and the management staffs of this great Council. This cooperation is the necessary ingredient that must not lack in the pot of governance if we must deliver on our electoral contracts”.

The event was witnessed by Hon. Adekunle Ekiyemi (Vice Chairman), Chief Mrs. Omotanwa Salawu (Chairperson of Somolu Local Government), Arinola Shodipo (Council Manager) and other management staff members of the council. So also are Hon. Folarin Olubiyi (Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman), Hon. Ayodele Afolabi (Special Adviser on Special Duties), Deacon Femi Taiwo and Hon. Abiola Fashoro, former Council Leaders of Imota, Ikosi-Ejinrin and Eredo LCDAs.

Present at the proclamation were party leaders like the Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Somolu 1, Hon. Rotimi Olowo (APC), Hon. Sulaimon Owoyele Oris (former Chairman, Bariga LCDA), Engr. Biodun Orekoya, Hon. Ademola Olisa, Hon. Williams Lawanson, Hon. Mike Oihke, former Councilors, Chief Modupe Olufojude (Iyaloja of Somolu) and Hon. Chief Bashir (Babaloja of Somolu).

The Council Clerk and Head of Legislative Department, Mrs. Olusesi Adetola described the legislative council as a body of people’s representatives elected to be the mouthpiece of their wards. While thanking the Chairman for changing the look of the Legislative Chamber and offices, she also appealed for immediate consideration of all Legislative request for the smooth running of the day-to-day activities of the Legislative council.

Elections of the principal officers of the legislative Council produced the immediate past leader of the House, Hon. Yomi Osunkoya from Ward A (Onipanu) as the leader for the second term. Other principal officers include Hon. Oduntan Ibrahim from Ward D (Deputy Leader), Hon. Lateef Muibi (Majority Leader), Hon. Mobolaji Teluwo from Ward E (Deputy Majority Leader) and Hon. Lateef Ashimi from Ward B (Chief Whip). Hon. Afolarin Adegbite (Ward C), Hon. Tunde James (Ward G) and Hon. Kingsley Ihenyen.

The Leader of the House, Hon. Yomi Osunkoya assured the Executive Chairman, councilors and electorates of great working relationship. He said, “I want to also assure the Executive Chairman that Executive bills forwarded to this house will be given prompt and adequate attention to facilitate the speed at which policies can be executed”. “I want to appreciate the electorates in our various political wards for giving us their mandate to serve as their representatives. I want to thank my fellow Honourable members who have deemed it fit to elect me as their Leader, I promise not to disappoint you. To all the people of Somolu, We promise we will not disappoint you”.
